Tsunami Propagation
The NOAA Center for Tsunami Research created this remarkable visualization of the Honshu Tsunami Event. Lots and lots of math here as you can see the waves spreading and then bouncing back on themselves.
The earthquake itself is currently estimated at a magnitude of 8.9 on a scale that uses logarithms (which are really exponents in disguise.)
